Reading Rockstars!

(16-week course)

This course is designed for students who are just learning letter names and sounds. Using a multisensory approach, students will master letter/sound identification, blending consonants and vowels, digraphs and blends, phonemic awareness concepts, and oral language opportunities.  This course is designed to help students master the foundations of reading they will need to become Reading Rockstars!

 

Group A: Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00pm-5:30pm (CDT)

Group B: Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:45pm-6:15pm (CDT)

Reading Wizards!

(16-week course)

This course is designed for students who have just started to read sentences! Students will be immersed in a print-rich environment to develop oral language skills, phonetic skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and an awareness of print materials as sources of information and enjoyment. Students will use listening and speaking skills to participate in group discussions. Additionally, students will use a variety of strategies to read new words, read familiar selections with fluency and expression, and develop an understanding of character, setting, main idea, and story sequence in a variety of texts. Students will also increase their vocabulary and comprehension strategies by reading across the curriculum. Students will demonstrate comprehension of fiction and nonfiction texts through group discussion and will begin to communicate ideas in writing. These skills will provide students with the skills and tools they need to become Reading Wizards!

 

Group A: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm-5:30pm (CDT)

Group B: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:45pm-6:15pm (CDT)

Reading Warriors!

(16-week course)

This course is designed to help students master reading more complex words, such as two-syllable words, and words with common prefixes and suffixes. Students will read grade-appropriate, irregularly spelled words, and read a variety of texts including fiction, nonfiction, fables, and poetry. Students will gain understanding of the structure of a story, specifically the purpose of beginnings (introducing the text) and endings (concluding the text). Students will be able to determine the most important details of a text—its main purpose and the “who,” “what,” “where,” “when,” “why,” and “how.” Students will be able to read at grade level with correct accuracy, pace, expression, and comprehension. This course will provide students with the tools they need to become Reading Warriors!

 

Group A: Mondays only from 6:30pm-7:30pm (CDT)

Group B: Wednesdays only from 6:30pm-7:30pm (CDT)
